You gotta have heart*
“If we did all the things we are capable of doing we would astound ourselves.”
– Edison
My momma always says, “No matter what your level of talent, there will always be someone better than you and someone worse, so stop comparing yourself to everybody and get to it.”
I think that statement is important for folks starting a new business to keep in mind, especially when you are fully aware of (and a little freaked out by) the talented competition out there.
Yes, there are people out there who make a living out of doing what you would give your Mac to do. And yes, they have been at it for 400 years and have become a household name in your field, but remember – you must forget all that.
What it really comes down to is this: How badly do you want it?
How much enthusiasm, heart, and sweat are you willing to put into it?
Are you ready for the failures/rejections you WILL endure before you find your footing?
If your answers to those questions begin with “YES!” then you are light-years ahead of even the most talent folks out there who will surely fail simply because they can’t manage to shake their own self-doubt.
So, stop comparing yourself to the competition and get to it. Be sure your every move communicates your confidence.
Most of all ??? don???t be afraid to let your friends be your cheerleaders. Lord knows if you do something we think is weird we are going to tell you. Better us than a potential client. ![]()
