Hi, I'm Margie Newman. I blog about public relations, social media, productivity and geek stuff.

Heck yeah, we deserve an encore!

encore_logo.gifWe now have a deck … and almost have windows!

It won’t be ready for another year, but that doesn’t stop me from checking the good ol’ web-cam every single day. Not that I can really tell a difference from the day before…

Anyway, we can’t wait!

While we are on the subject of addiction

towers.jpgAlthough I remain loyal to my claim that Tetris is the greatest game of all time, I am completely addicted to Desktop Tower Defense. If you try it, be sure to turn your speakers up because the little noises are the best part.

You will find it pointless in the first five minutes, but then you will find yourself dreaming about how to kill “boss.” Fine, laugh — you’ll see.

For three days I have been stuck at level 49. Of course, as soon as I get home I will continue my voyage to level 50.

Addicted

mb4.jpgEvery Sunday I spring to my laptop to read other people’s private thoughts and fears on PostSecret. I just wish they would post them everyday!

Warning: Only follow that link if you want to be addicted, too.

Cleanest house on the market

lr870961-2.jpgIf you are like me and have trouble getting motivated to clean your house — and I mean really clean it like with a vacuum and a magic eraser — just put it on the market! A little MLS action will inspire you in a snap.

In my spare time, I used to bug my husband to feed and water me. I still find time to do that, but now, I also dust. In the past, things that nagged at me were the need for a pedicure and chocolate. Over the past week, that has turned to the need to weed the front yard and refill the bird feeder.

Bless my heart. I may not clean my house for my soul mate, but I will absolutely scrub this place for a stranger.

If it makes you feel better

book_cover.jpgDo you feel this unexplainable tug in your gut that says, “No, it is really not okay for you to ask me to squelch my passion and creative energy to fit a decades-old mold of what a 20-something in the workplace looks like”?

Feel it? If so, you also probably give some thought to settling for boring projects, pointless memos and the lack of a social life because folks are telling you it is the only way you can make a name for yourself. You think about it, you might even do it. But you don’t like it.

Turns out you aren’t alone and someone has written a book about you.

Thanks to my hubby, I am reading Brazen Careerist by Penelope Trunk. I totally dig it because it makes me feel better about my inability to “take what I am given” or be satisfied by “the honor” of working somewhere. I am lucky to now have a job that is both challenging and creatively fulfilling. Until I had this gig something just didn’t fit, so I job-hopped until it found me. According to this book — that isn’t anything to feel bad about.

I needed to hear that. Do you? If so, you can get a daily dose of this stuff on her blog. It covers everything from job-hopping to kids and daily exercise. And she actually reads all of the comments, too!

Um, wow.

bb2.jpgLast night I had the joy of being about 30 feet from Bekka Bramlett at Wednesday Night Wags. I went along with a friend who loves her; I had never heard of her and was expecting the same old guitar ballad pick and grin. Yeah, not so much.

After witnessing such an artist, I may never be impressed with any other live performance from anyone ever again.

I really don’t have words for it. The woman just exudes song from every single part of her body. Every part — arm, left hand, pinkie, ear, toe, eyebrow…

I wish I had a music link to share, but I can’t seem to find any and the videos on her site don’t do her justice.

At any rate, if you are ever in Nashville and want to see the real thing — track down Bekka Bramlett and be prepared to walk away in awe.
