Hi, I'm Margie Newman. I blog about public relations, social media, careers, productivity and geek stuff.

BWI airport jogger and a little DC update

Say what you will about how odd this lady is (not to mention how completely mortified her teenage daughter was) as she jogs through BWI Thurgood Marshall airport; she’s got great calves:

I was stuck in the airport for about five hours; she jogged around the people mover for two of them. She even jogged in place at Aunt Annie’s Pretzels while the cashier fetched her a handful of napkins for her glistening brow.

Odd, I tell you. Odd. I mean, I’m all about multitasking, but this was a bit too much. And hilarious.

In other news, I’m positively loving DC.

Although I won’t be going into detail on this blog about my gig, I will say that I’m blessed. It’s an honor to have this opportunity, and the warm welcome was the icing on the cake. I spent the first week there on my own; came home for some family time this weekend. And of course, Mere’s AMAZING wedding. (Congrats, Mere!) I return to Our Nation’s Capital this afternoon.

Dave moves up this Thursday – yay! He’ll bring up the poodle and the wireless router; two very important items in my life that I’m barely making it through the day without.

Oh! And you harassed asked, we listened: Picalicious is back, baby! The photo-a-day goodness is here!  Now you can check out photos of my Amtrak train hitting a deer, my sadness over the fact that there is no Fat Tire in DC, and of course, pictures of cool cars that Dave keeps seeing without me.

As always, I appreciate all the emails, phone calls, texts, Facebook wall posts, Tweets and snail mail you’ve sent my way; your support and encouragement has made this adventure possible – and so much fun!

Dave: standing by an iron chicken

We ventured out to the Easter Market neighborhood today… Lotta coffee shops, lotta street vendors.

Cute neighborhood; wish I had worn sunscreen.

Leavin’ Nashvegas

So, this half of Team Newman is moving to DC today! Dave is coming up with me for a couple of days, then headed back to Nashville.

I miss my peeps already, but this still feels right. Thanks to all you folks for your relentless encouragement!

More updates soon…

Going away flowers from the Tiny Trotters

I have no clue what kind of flowers these are but they smell AWESOME and make my kitchen look pretty!

Tech I heart

Dominos Pizza Tracker I get lots-o questions from the non-techy set about “what’s next,” what geek toys I just can’t live without, etc.

This week, a friend asked me to name a few tech items that impress me. He looked at me with great anticipation – literally ready to take notes – but then I gave him my enthusiastic answer: “Oh! That Domino’s Pizza Tracker! It BLOWS MY MIND.” I thought he was going to cry.

(sigh)

Seeing the disappointed look on his face (I mean really, Chic Geek? That’s all you got?) I quickly followed up my pizza tracking glee with another tech toy that really impresses me: the Public Radio Tuner app for the iPhoneScore! He totally approved of that one.

Clearly, I HEART the pizza tracker. I mean come on people; it tracks your pizza prep in real time AND tells you the name of your delivery person! But hearing about the Public Radio Tuner app really about made me cry.

See, I was listening to the WPLN fund-drive when I heard Blake Farmer say you one can listen to WPLN from ANYWHERE via this iPhone app thing. Holy cow! This was exciting news for me, since I’m moving and one of the things I’ll miss most are the Nashville Public Radio voices. It also lets you tune in WMOT, which is awesome. You don’t even need to be on wireless for it to work; it tunes in via 3G just fine.

The sound is not HD by any means and sometimes it drops the signal mid-newscast, but it’s still your local public radio station in your ear when you are far from home. That’s impressive and makes my heart happy.

What about you? What technology impresses you? Share it in the comments!

One great thing about living downtown

The best part of living up in the air downtown is that even though we don’t own grass, we still get to walk around among beautiful roses. And we don’t have to worry about keeping them alive!

Getting to know you

Dave and I are starting to get excited about (as opposed to freaked out by) our upcoming DC adventure. We are reading, Googling and researching our new hood. We really appreciate all of you who have reached out and offered advice/help/guidance.

We’ve had several folks look at renting the Nashvegas condo – crossed fingers, prayers, happy thoughts and positive vibes appreciated… hope to have her rented soon.

Can’t believe I’ll be a DC resident in just two weeks. INSANE!

Team Newman DC Headquarters: confirmed!

Our new place!

Check out our new hood, yo! We are thrilled to call ourselves soon-to-be residents of this fabulous building in Penn Quarter. And when I say “we” I mean me and mom, since Dave has not actually seen the place yet. But he’s excited anyway.

The best part: one block walk to work!
