Team Newman, DC bureau
As you may have heard, I’ve been offered – and have accepted – an incredible job opportunity in Washington DC.
I KNOW! (squeal!)
As odd as it may seem, most folks I’ve told about this adventure promptly ask, “Well, what about Dave? Is he going with you?” Um, yes. Dave is going with me. And so is the porge.
In anticipation of this and other queries, we’ve created a quick Frequently Asked Questions section for your reference:
FAQ: Team Newman, DC bureau
1. WTF? I know. It’s very sudden, but I promise it is a well thought-out decision and it’s a very good thing for me, Dave and Georgia Lee. Dave and GroovySoup will keep right on working the Interwebs from DC; the Internet is cool like that.
2. Is Dave going with you? See above; paragraph three.
3. What about your condo? You know, that one you JUST remodeled? This one is REALLY tough for me. I LOVE my condo. We aren’t selling it; we’re looking into other leasing opportunities. We’ll be back at some point down the road and we will want to live in this fabulous place again!
4. When do you leave? May 18 is my official start date, but I’ll be heading out on May 15 to get settled in my temporary digs for the first month.
5. Where will you live? That’s a great question, and one that I hope mom and I can figure out on our girls trip up there on April 29. We are currently eying the Chinatown, Penn Quarter and Dupont Circle neighborhoods. If you’ve got suggestions, I’d love to hear them so leave them in the comments or shoot me a note!
6. Are you scared? I’m not scared of the new job, I’m scared of leaving the old job: I want to be sure that I leave Hall Strategies in a very organized and respectful fashion for my clients, co-workers and bosses.
7. Do you know how expensive DC is? Yes. (sigh). But Dave is an excellent cook and we’ve become so accustomed to eating in now, I don’t see why that needs to change when we move. Sure, we’ll want to explore our new city, but we’ll do it as frugally as we possibly can.
8. Does it bother you than the folks who live in Our Nation’s Capitol can’t vote in an election to put folks in said Capitol? A bit, yes. But at least folks are making an effort to change that.
9. Will you keep your car? Will Dave keep his? I’m selling my car, but Dave is 98% sure he’s keeping his. I mean, really. How can he possibly give up a convertible in the summer?
10. Are they gonna let you keep writing for Her Nashville? Yes! I have to tell you that when Ashley told me I could keep writing the Chic Geek column I about cried. I’m so honored to be a part of that pub and I am thrilled that I get to keep contributing. Oh, and don’t forget to pick up the April singles issue.
11. What will you miss most? Seeing my family so much – specifically Mom and Granny; hugging my friends, WPLN, WMOT, living at the Encore, running into someone I know everywhere I go, Nashville Predators Hockey, and serving on the boards of the Nashville Adult Literacy Council and the Nashville Downtown Partnership.
12. So, you guys gonna start a new blog about this whole DC thing? Hahahahaha! Well, of course we are. What kind of questions is that, honestly? We’re working on it now and will launch it in a few days…
We are very grateful for the well wishes we’ve received from so many of you; stay tuned: this will be a great adventure, I’m sure!

SOOO excited for you guys (just in case I haven’t told you that a million times already!)!! Can’t wait to have a Nash-Vegas friend up here in DC!
Congratulations!! That’s wonderful news. And I’m so glad you’ll be able to keep chic geeking.
Congrats, Margie! This is a great opportunity and I am so happy for you.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG! CONGRATS! You are soooo freakin’ fabulous. Estoy excited!! I lived in Dupont eons ago and loved it. Also, I will insist on passing along contact info for my grandma and parents, so you can have adoptive family nearby to ply you with food and passiveaggressiveness.
YAY! So proud of my girl!
Ashley???s last blog post..Up next!
Um, I think I understand the expression “shock and awe” more than ever before. I am in shock that Nashville is letting you get away… and simply in awe of your talent! I am so thrilled for you. Congrats… and Pew is lucky to be getting you.
Margie, congratulations!! I am so excited for you. I absolutely love D.C.; lived there for a while and it is one of my top favorites places to live in the U.S.
Pew is a fantastic organization (um yeah, I realize that you know that already
and I use their research almost every day in my work. I hope for nothing but the best for you and Dave as you start your life and new job in D. C. Congrats, again!

Congratulations! Looking forward to seeing you in DC!
What wonderful news! I lived there for five years and hope to return some day. Rent a house in Capitol Hill or Georgetown if you can swing it. Congratulations!
Margie – what a FANTASTIC opportunity. With my bent in social justice, I can only add more squeals to yours!
So happy for you and can’t wait to hear more about it. And will say that my vote for where you should live (with good Thai food and loads of dog-walkers, and fairly quiet) is the Capitol South/Capitol area…really coming along with a neighborhood feel to it….

WOW! Congrats Margie! What a great opportunity and awesome job! You will do great!
Ok, my first question- Is this an April Fool’s joke?!?
Margie! I’m so excited for you, but I can’t imagine you anywhere but Nashville.
Much love and I wish you the best in DC! It’ll be amazing.
Paige???s last blog post..Cut, I say. CUT!
Margie, I am soooooooooooooo happy for you — congratulations! What an awesome opportunity for you. I know you’ll do a great job. Best,
Faye
Margie – I am so excited for you! If I were your age and could do it all over, I would DEFINITELY make the same move! I love DC – and I loved visiting my daughter there the year she was at George Washington (before transferring to Peabody). She lived in Foggy Bottom, in a great apartment that was behind the Kennedy Center and adjacent to the Watergate. It was very centrally located. You might check out that area, too.
Keep us posted and send us some more news to add to the new magazine. Did you get your copy of VOICES? I was so impressed with how our first student writing group handled their assignments for that piece and it was a lot of fun (and work – but fun work) for me to get to serve as the editor on the magazine and creative director for the accompanying CD. I don’t think any other magazine (at least a school magazine) has sent a CD as a part of a magazine!
Bon voyage! You’ll do great in DC – it really is a city with a very Southern feel.
Congratulations Margie!
Congrats Margie, sounds like a fantastic opportunity!! And DC is such a fun city! I hope to be finding a job in DC soon myself

I heart this post!!! And my newest friend in D.C. There seems to be a trend here. DC and I have more friends in D.C. than we do here in Florida. What’s up with that?!?!
If you are coming to DC, you may find this link worthwhile. There is considerable differences from living in DC, MD and VA, and within DC. I’ve done all three and your preferences/desires will impact where you and spouse may choose to roost. Good hunting: http://bit.ly/MetroDC
