Why do I love Penelope Trunk?
Read this and you’ll know.
Penelope Trunk says everything I subconsciously want to say (plus a whole slew of things I’d never be able to say). I mean, sure, I might say some of the things she says after I’ve had four glasses of wine. She not only says them sober, she publishes them. On the Internet – where her extremely blunt words will live and be Googled forever. I’m so glad she does and they will.
Women especially love Penelope. I think that’s because she’s painfully real. One day she’s doling out career advice and the next she’s giving you the play by play on her marriage counseling sessions. Then there was her farmer. And then there wasn’t. You won’t have to wonder how those matters of the heart are affecting her work; she’ll tell you.
The transparency freaks me out a little, to be honest. But it’s also very refreshing. Seriously, folks, check it out.
Challenge: Surf her site for even ten minutes and I PROMISE you’ll read something that makes you say out loud, “Did she really just write about that on her blog and is she aware other people are reading it?” Um, yes. Yes she did and she does. And you’ll be stunned and compelled to tell a friend at the same time. Her blog is awesome like that.
Oh, and she’s also the creator of the Brazen Careerist community that I dig so much. I’ve met some really fabulous folks on there.

I LOVED that post about the five career tips women should run from… especially the one about crying at work.
Sometimes her posts are a little too extreme for me and get me angry, but I think it’s a good kind of angry. The kind that makes me seriously consider every side before completely dismissing it.
