The past few weeks ushered in milestones, lessons learned, odd requests and fun events. July was busy and productive! Here are the highlights:

My niece was born!

Check it out, folks! The world’s cutest baby, Beverly Emmeline, was born on July 19 and I get to paint her toenails pink VERY soon! Congrats Pavis and Dave; I can’t hardly wait to teach her show tunes and jazz hands:

My MacBook died.

I was minding my own business, watching an old episode of Bones on Netflix when my beloved MacBook just up and died. And with it, took every photo, document, file and Christmas card list I’ve ever had. Even our honeymoon pictures. The fault is all mine; Dave has often encouraged me to run a copy of my data on an external drive, but I never did. Lesson learned: back that asset up, people. Read More…

DC Flacks wrapped up our last happy hour of 2009 last night (we’ve got 68 members now – can you believe it?!). We had a great turnout and a surprise visit from Joe Flood‘s very talented (and delightful) friend Vincent, who took these FABULOUS pics of our peeps and their various appetizers.

Ever since Team Newman won a free overnight adventure to from BWI to NYC thanks to a Southwest Airlines Twitter contest, I’ve had this urge to just make up a contest of my own. You know, to see if anyone would actually play. So, this morning, I sounded the contest alarm — and people took me up on the chance to win an ugly t-shirt. Word.

I mean, I didn’t take down the Internet or anything, but so far I’ve had about a dozen folks Tweet, DM or email me pictures of Nashville – just because I asked them to.

Some observations:

1. Only one person used the hashtag, which made finding the pictures difficult
2. Even though they read about the contest on Twitter, most folks emailed me their photos
3. People are playing my game – like, really!
4. Twitter contests are empowering

I’m still receiving pics, so I’m gonna let folks have the rest of the evening to get theirs in. But be sure to check Picalicious tomorrow to see our winning photo!

So, I go to pay our first utility bill here in Our Nation’s Capital and guess what? Here in DC, we have Life Threatening Emergencies and Power Outages at our beck and call. Sweet.

Oh, and Dave is super excited about designing a logo for my run at the 2010 Miss Utility pageant. I hope they accept karaoke in the talent portion!

UPDATE: this was just me being sarcastic, folks; I’m thrilled to be here! (but thanks for all of the sweet emails!)

So, this half of Team Newman is moving to DC today! Dave is coming up with me for a couple of days, then headed back to Nashville.

I miss my peeps already, but this still feels right. Thanks to all you folks for your relentless encouragement!
