Description
The Pew Center on the States is looking for a sharp communications staffer with 4-7 years' experience.
This is a great job for someone with a combination of campaign communications, legislative, and/or state-level experience. Strong writing skills, attention to detail, and a genuine interest in the work we do are a must for this job.
Requirements:
• A minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience in media relations and campaign communications, preferably with public policy or nonprofit advocacy organizations.
• Significant experience in earned media and considerable familiarity with paid media such as public service announcements and audio and video news releases.
• Understanding of media operations and news organizations and experience pitching both event-based press materials (announcements, bills, agreements, etc.) and product-based press materials (statements, reports, polls, etc.).
• Experience creating and maintaining media lists.
• Demonstrated track record of letter to the editor and op-ed placement in print media.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work well in a team and independently.
• Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure.
• Good project management skills and attention to detail.
• Demonstrated political skills and judgment.
• Ability to thrive in a creative, fast-paced and highly professional corporate culture that emphasizes excellence, collegiality and teamwork.
• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
Travel
Occasional travel to attend meetings and conferences.
