So, Kriste Goad and I decided to take a stroll down Commerce this afternoon to check out the rumored concert and free Hot Diggity Dogs thinking it would be a few folks and a the city’s best beef franks. It actually turned out to be hundreds of peeps, Hot Diggity sans coleslaw, and some of the best people watching I’ve done in a while.
We turned the corner and saw Jamey Johnson on a huge stage smack in the middle of 5th and Commerce. His faithful masses had apparently camped out since early morning just to get a glimpse of this bearded wonder. They knew all the words to every song, did a lot of WOOOOOOOOOOOO! ing, etc. And I was all, “who the heck IS this dude?” Then I heard him close the show with this tune, “Give it Away,” which I remember hearing George Strait sing years ago. Johnson wrote it, so that made me feel a little better.
Anyway, here’s an itty bitty recap in case you missed it:

Newman surfs the web in his new boots.
Hubs just purchased his first pair of cowboy boots! We’ll go ahead and file this one under Things I NEVER Thought I’d Witness. I’m freakin’ ecstatic! My husband wearing boots = H O T.
Oh, and for you non-Nashvegas or Texas folk: yes, it’s totally exceptable to wear boots in a city like this. Not everyone does this mind you but I’m a fan and now hubby is, too! YAY!
If you’re around town and seeking a pair of your own, go see Gary at Trail West on 2nd Ave. He’ll hook you up, yo. Yeehaw!

Dear Thoughtful People,
You rock. You pull us out of a funk, offer up much needed perspective and are downright good for the soul.
You, thoughtful folk, inherently behave in a way that makes us wonder how the heck you knew we needed that bit of encouragement right this very second. Best of all, it’s always very sincere and usually unprovoked.
So, I just want to say thank you – kind, thoughtful, genuine, encouraging folk (you know who you are) - on behalf of all of us who’ve been funky, frustrated or freaked-out recently.
You don’t suck. And we’re all very grateful.
Serioulsy.
I’m quite lucky (and delighted!) to be a contributor to Her Nashville magazine. I’ve enjoyed the first three issues so much, but the October issue is one I’m particularly thrilled with because of the beautiful, very real stories of Melissa, Nancy, Princess Ivori and Rachel.
The Her Nashville folks are calling it “the naked, but not ashamed” issue, and it’s a title I would not fully appreciate unless I had published my own thoughts. I know it sounds silly (it’s just 700 words of geek talk) but writing and filing the Chic Geek column always gives me butterflies. When you publish your thoughts, whether in print or online, it’s scary. Read More…
